their view of apostates seems to be out of the realm of the ordinary, the natural.
its as if the words of apostates are supernatual or spiritistic as if apostates are some kind of jedi knights who can slightly wave their hands or twitch their eyes and bring one under a spell.

Can you show me where the bible it says to shun a christian who does not believe teachings you hold which aren't found in scripture and which the christian can disprove with scripture? Can you show me that?

So they can be reasonable and disobey Jesus' explicit command to pass the bread and the wine and partake, so as to prevent loss of life to Ebola; but they can't show similar reasonableness by getting a life-saving blood transfusion to save a life, despite there being no explicit injunction against blood transfusions in scripture? Such hypocrites!

The organization has used anti-apostate propaganda to give JWs a phobia for apostates so that JWs will not get the inconvenient truths about the organization from apostates. It's classic case of Watchtower using BITE. They're using emotional control (fear of apostates) to effect behavior control (not listening to apostates) to effect informational control (prevent JWs from getting damaging information about the organization).
Deception requires ignorance on the part of the decieved. The more differing sources of information that a person has on a matter the less likely he is to be decieved. When one listens to only one source on a matter - especially if the information provided by that source is favorable to the source (conflict of interest) the more likely he is to be deceived by that source. Can you imagine a court where the judge instructs the jury to listen only to the defence and to cover their eyes and ears so as not to see or hear anything the prosecution has to say? Well that's the idiotic position of the Watchtower when it tells members not to see information from critical sources and apostates. They behave just like authoritarian regimes that censor critical news reports from getting into their police state.

Emeth, what if I told you that I hate your favorite food? Would you refuse to mingle with me because of that? Will you shun me because of that? That would be foolish, wouldn't it? But if you did do it to me, guess what? I'll be thinking to myself: "What! You're not speaking to me just because I don't like your favorite food?! I can't believe this! Emeth, you're a total douche bag!" I might be so upset and indignant about your childish action that I would tell others about it. "That Emeth is a real moron! Can you believe the guy is shunning me just because I told him I don't like his favorite food? Unbelieveable!"
So you see, Emeth, ironically one of the reasons why JWism is so hated is because you shun ex-JWs simply because they no longer believe your religion. If you would allow people the dignity to leave without shunning them and disparaging their character then ex-JWs would have less reason to speak out against you. It is the Watchtower's childish and vindictive policies that inspire ex-members to become activists against them. You (JWs, the Watchtower) are the root of the problem. You are your own worst enemies and seemingly too blind to see it. Or do you see vocal ex-members of normal non-vindictive religions protesting against them? No. It's only the ex-members of authoritarian and vindictive cults that do that. You reap what you sow.

The Watchtower has a finite syllabus of topics that are recycled year after year. This is especially notable in the public edition. The same cover topics keep popping up year after year - crime, alcohol, armageddon, the bible, living forever, etc. The same is also true of the study edition. The same themes keep repeating over and over again. I suspect that Watchtower writers do more tweaking and rewording of copied content than actually coming up with new material.

Speaking of overlapping kingdoms, do you remember that recent article about 100 years of Kingdom rule? That article was putting forth the activities of the messianic kingdom over the last century. But isn't strange how all the activities mentioned related to the congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses? In other words, all the activities fell under the jurisdiction of, not the messianic kingdom, which the article was speaking about but the 'kingdom of the son of his love' - christ's kingship of the congregation as the JWs call it. So in reality they have misrepresented the doings of the 'kingdom of the son of his love' as being the doings of the messianic kingdom! They are blind, blind, blind I tell you!
maybe a silly question, but i'm curious about this part of the story of christ's crucifixion, when the 1 thief challenges jesus to save himself and "us too" from their deaths, but the 2nd thief rebukes him and pleads with jesus... .
luke 23:42-43: and he said unto jesus, lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
and jesus said unto him, verily i say unto thee, today shalt thou be with me in paradise.. .
I think it's entirely possible that Jesus said "today you will be with me in paradise". But it does not necessarily mean that he meant it literally. The JW organization, because of its narrow-minded thinking and it's 'disprove the immortal soul' agenda has blinded itself from considering this possibility.
Do you recall that when the young maiden died Jesus told the grieving crowd that she was not dead but merely sleeping? Jesus often spoke figuratively. I think this is possibly the case here as well.
Jesus could have told the man "today" because from the perspective of the dying thief, he will be raised up the same day. How so? When the thief dies he will be unaware of the passage of centuries of time until his resurrection. His death and resurrection will seem to him as happening on the same day. Jesus' promise to him would have been comforting and experiencially true.
But it's also entirely possible that Luke meant it literally and this is an example of one of the glaring contradictions in the bible since the bible elsewhere makes it clear that the resurrection doesn't start until christ's future presence.

BAR_ANERGES? I know that guy. He is/was a regular on Yahoo Answers. He used to give the same copy and paste answer over and over again with just minor tweaks. LOL. And he always had a somewhat confrontational tone when answering a question critical of JWs. He gives the impression of being very knowledgeable of the scriptures but when you show him hard evidence of JW error he's just like every other JW. LOL.
i was 13yo and largely clueless to what was going on.
i think i remember hearing something about an apostate being weeded out of bethel but really couldn't have cared less.
i didn't start getting zealous until a couple of years later.. .
